The cup that hold the pad started as a flat brass disk pressed between two formers. This was then soldered to a brass rod that was cut, bent, and filed to shape. The finger pad was filed from a solid piece of brass and soldered to the main rod. A hinge rod and hinge tube was made and attached to the key. It was then polished, lacquered, and drilled and tapped on the bottom for a return spring.
